R.E.P.O. Guide: Mastering the New Semiscooters and Vehicle Mechanics

Everything you need to know about buying, driving, and repairing the new Hauler and Scouter vehicles so you can stop walking and start drifting.

Quick Answer: The age of the sluggish hand-cart is over. Purchase a Hauler (38K-48K) to carry up to 20K in loot or a Scouter (18K-20K) for pure speed. Both vehicles require charging and repairs at your van’s Crystal-powered station, but be careful—crashing or hitting hazards drains your battery and can eventually cause a deadly 100-damage explosion.

The days of breaking your back dragging a basic cart across the facility are finally behind us. While the old cart was a reliable workhorse, it made you a sitting duck in every dark corridor. The latest REPO update changes the entire rhythm of a scrap run by introducing rideable Semiscooters. These machines turn the game into a high-speed heist, but they also give you plenty of new ways to accidentally blow yourself up.

If you want to stop walking and start drifting, you need to know exactly what you’re buying before you dump your hard-earned credits into a machine that might end up as a pile of scrap.

Choosing Your Ride: Hauler vs. Scouter

You won’t always see these vehicles sitting in the shop. They appear based on random rotation, so you might need to check back across several shifts before you see a scooter for sale. When they do show up, you have to decide if you want a mobile storage unit or a lightweight scout.

The Heavy-Duty Hauler

The Hauler (often called the cargoscooter) is the ultimate utility vehicle. It is a massive investment, usually costing between 38K and 48K credits, but the perks justify the price. It features a built-in cargo hold that can carry small items totaling up to 20K in value.

The best part? You can drive the entire loaded Hauler straight into the extraction point to deposit your loot instantly. It also comes with a unique drift-boost mechanic, which is essential for navigating tight corners when you’re trying to outrun something nasty.

The Lightweight Scouter

If you’re on a budget or just want to move fast, the Scouter is your go-to. At 18K to 20K, it’s significantly cheaper than its big brother. However, it has zero cargo capacity. This ride is purely for mobility and exploration.

Don’t try to be a hero on a Scouter. While it’s tempting to try and ram enemies at top speed, the damage output is pathetic. You’ll likely just wreck your own vehicle’s health and leave yourself stranded without a ride.

Maintenance, Battery, and Safety

Owning a vehicle in REPO means you’re now a mechanic as well as a scavenger. You can’t just drive these things into a wall and expect them to keep humming.

Managing Your Battery

Both Semiscooters run on internal batteries that must be recharged at the station inside your van. This station is fueled by your Crystals. Pay attention to your driving; every time you clip a corner or slam into an obstacle, your battery takes a hit. If you drive like a maniac, you’ll find yourself with a dead battery in the deepest part of the map, forcing you to abandon your expensive investment.

Durability and the “Boom” Factor

Your scooter isn’t invincible. The Hauler is more durable than the Scouter, possessing about 33% more health, but both are susceptible to environmental hazards.

Since you’ll be spending a lot of time at the shop looking for these rides or specialized parts, you should definitely learn how to find every hidden secret shop entrance in R.E.P.O. to ensure you aren’t missing out on the best gear.

Keep an eye out for these specific hazards that will shred your vehicle’s HP:

  • Laser grids and floor traps.
  • Fire hazards and environmental flames.
  • Ramming into monsters or heavy walls.
  • Driving into pits (these are ground-scooters, they don’t fly!).

If your vehicle’s health bar hits zero, it will enter a critical state. You have a few seconds to jump off and run before it explodes. That blast deals 100 damage—enough to instantly end your run if you’re standing too close.

Repairing Your Investment

If you manage to bring a smoking, battered scooter back to the van, don’t worry. You can fix any structural damage at the same charging station where you top off the battery. I make it a habit to fully repair and charge my ride before every single drop.

A fresh Hauler is particularly useful for transporting the new cosmetic boxes. Since the Hauler’s cargo hold can take the standard small scrap, it leaves your hands free to carry those fragile high-value items that you don’t want to risk dropping during a chase.

Settlement by Speed: The New Failed Run Mechanic

The developers have officially retired the “King of the Losers” combat arena. If your team wipes and the run ends in failure, you no longer fight to the death to see who was the best of the worst.

Instead, you now settle the score with a Semiscooter race. This is a much more productive way to spend your post-death downtime. It allows you to practice your drifting and boosting mechanics in a zero-risk environment. Getting good at the race will make you a much more effective driver when your actual credits and loot are on the line during a real mission.
