Shift at Midnight Guide: Complete Doppelganger Identity List
Stop wasting ammo and risking your run. Use our complete night-by-night customer breakdown to easily spot the fakes and survive your shift.

Quick Answer: Your memory is your worst enemy in this game. A customer who was human on Night 1 might be a doppelganger by Night 9. Always verify every single ID, and if you spot a fake, pull the trigger before the transaction completes or you will be dealing with a full-blown monster hunt later that shift.
The Core Mechanic: Paranoia at the Register
Working a late-night gas station shift is rough. It gets infinitely worse when half your customers are wearing human skin suits. The core loop of Shift at Midnight revolves entirely around your observation skills. You need to cross-reference IDs, look for visual anomalies, and interrogate weird behavior on the fly.
Make the right call, and you survive another hour. Mess up, and the consequences are brutal. Letting a doppelganger walk out the door means they will return later as something completely unhinged and violent. On the flip side, getting trigger-happy and blasting an innocent human will tank your nightly revenue.
The Golden Rule: Trust Absolutely No One
Forget about building customer loyalty. In this game, a familiar face means absolutely nothing.
You cannot memorize a name and assume that person is safe forever. The game actively weaponizes your comfort level against you.
- Clyde Dawson is a perfectly normal human on Nights 1 and 4. By Night 9, the thing wearing his face is a doppelganger.
- Diana Volkov is human on Night 7 but returns as a monster on Night 12.
- “Driver” flips back and forth between human and doppelganger constantly across the entire campaign.
You have to run the same rigorous checks on a returning customer as you would a total stranger. Getting this wrong with specific characters can actually ruin your entire playthrough. For example, if you mistakenly shoot the real Clyde Dawson early on, you completely lock yourself out of the best outcomes. Read our guide on unlocking all three endings to understand exactly why keeping him alive is mandatory.
Timing is Everything
When you do catch a fake, do not wait. You must deal with a doppelganger before you hand them their receipt.
If you let the transaction finish and then shoot them in the back as they walk away, you have wasted your ammo. The game registers that as a successful infiltration. The doppelganger will still trigger a violent hunt later in your shift. Deal with the threat while the register is still open.

Complete Customer Identity Table
Customer lineups can shuffle slightly depending on your specific playthrough, so treat this table as an incredibly strong cheat sheet for pattern recognition rather than a rigid, unchangeable script.
If you see a name listed twice on the same night (like Tommy Delgado or Andal Khan), that means they will walk through the door twice. The table lists them in the exact order they appear.
