Gecko Gods Beginner Guide: Mastering Movement, Stamina, and the Water Temple
Master the complex Water Temple puzzles, perfect your gravity-defying climbing skills, and set yourself up for a flawless opening hour

You are a tiny reptile with a massive destiny. Gecko Gods drops you into a stunning archipelago where your main job is waking up three ancient, sleeping deities. Inersin developed this gem, and Super Rare Originals published it, delivering an adventure that heavily favors smart movement over frantic button mashing. That first hour can be a real wake-up call. I want to save you from pulling your hair out when you reach the Water Temple.
Stop Button Mashing and Learn the Controls
The control scheme feels simple, but there is some serious depth hidden right under the surface. Moving handles both walking and climbing seamlessly across any valid surface. You want to use small, deliberate taps on your analog stick for precise landings instead of just slamming it forward.
Jumping lets you chain off walls to gain some serious height. The biggest mistake I see new players make is spamming the jump button when they miss a ledge. Just let yourself slide down a tiny bit first, and then jump again to easily connect.
Interacting is your bread and butter for pushing blocks and flipping levers. If a door looks almost open, stop moving and scan the room for a pressure plate or block slot you completely ignored.
Do not ignore your camera controls. You absolutely have to rotate it constantly to spot hidden relics and levers tucked behind waterfalls or high above you. Getting into the habit of orbiting your camera saves you hours of frustrating backtracking.
How to Manage Stamina and Catch Your Dinner
Climbing takes energy, and your stamina bar drains quickly. You have to hunt down insects scattered across the biomes to keep yourself moving, but you need to know what to look for. Different bugs spawn in specific areas, and anticipating them makes a huge difference. By the way, if you want to make sure your game runs as smoothly as your climbs, check out my other guide right here: Gecko Gods: The Ultimate Guide to Movement, Performance, and Secrets.
You need to eat proactively. Never start a massive climb without topping off your energy first. Running out of stamina halfway up a wall forces a complete restart, which sometimes resets puzzle blocks entirely.
| Insect Type | Biome Location | Stamina Recovery |
| Firefly | Near heat sources | Partial |
| Mosquito | Near water | Partial |
| Beetle | Inside ruins | Partial |
The Water Temple Solution Step by Step
This temple is your first real skill check. There are six specific steps you have to nail in the exact right order. Raising the water level too early will completely break the puzzle state and force you to start over.
- Start on the lowest water setting by flipping the lever to drain the room, which lets you walk right under the heavy gates.
- Climb the right wall and skip past the shallow pool, grabbing a nearby mosquito if your energy is dipping.
- Push the green block directly into the side leak to seal it completely, otherwise the water levels will never stabilize later on.
- Raise the water to the middle setting to reveal new ledges on the back wall, and use the ceiling to get around faster than swimming.
- Follow the groove in the ceiling all the way to your first relic, making sure to buffer your jump on the way down so you land safely.
- Raise the water to the highest setting last, which aligns the floating platforms perfectly for your exit.
Understanding the Three Chapters
The journey is split into three distinct phases. First, you handle the Great Water Gecko section, learning the ropes and exploring the initial islands. After clearing the lighthouse area, you reach the Volcanic Temple Gate, where four new puzzles block your path. Finally, you head to the Great Desert Island to awaken the last deity and finish the prophecy.
Every single island introduces completely new puzzle logic. Do not expect the tricks you learned in the Water Temple to automatically solve the volcanic or desert challenges. Move slowly, keep your eyes peeled for hidden paths, and always double-check your puzzle mechanisms before moving on.
