MOUSE P.I. For Hire: The Opera House Chaos
The ultimate guide to surviving Gumshoe in the Opera. Rescue Roland, defeat the Prima Donna, and grab every hidden schematic before the building burns down.

Jack Pepper’s hunt for the missing magician takes a wild turn when a tip points him to the Mouseburg Grand Opera. What should have been a simple conversation with Roland the Stage Designer quickly turns into a massive assassination plot, a chaotic boss fight, and the entire opera house catching on fire.
This guide covers everything you need to survive the opera, crack the basement safes, beat the Prima Donna, and escape before the building comes down on you.
Before You Hit the Road
Do not jump in your car yet. Look for Tammy Tumbler standing near the alley entrance. Talk to her to trigger your very first side mission: “Show Some Culture, Jack.” She wants a photo of the opera house. You will have a chance to take this picture automatically during the escape sequence later, but if you do not talk to her now, the quest will not register.
Once you have that sorted, jump in the car, pull up the map, and drive north to the Mouseburg Grand Opera.
Sneaking Backstage
Talk to the waiter outside to confirm Roland is inside, then head in. Check the table right near the entrance door to grab Newspaper 3. There is also cash sitting on the table and on top of the lockers in the corner.
Head into the kitchen and look for a closed room on the east wall. Tailpick the safe inside for some extra money. Now, go to the north side of the kitchen and crawl through the vent that leads outside to the air ducts.
Carefully walk along the left edge of the ducts to grab the ammo box without falling off. You will also find a schematic sitting on top of the ducts. Climb the ladder, wait for the fans to stop blowing, grab the money, and drop straight down into the backstage dressing room.
Finding the Boomstick and Freeing Roland
Do not leave the dressing room without grabbing the Boomstick leaning against the vanity chair. It is a close range shotgun, and you are going to need it very soon. Grab the ammo and the helmet armor nearby, then head through the door.
You will find a single guard standing in front of a sealed door. You can hear Roland making muffled noises behind it, but you cannot reach him from here.
Weave through the shelves, duck under the giant roll, and climb the ladder in the next room. You will find another helmet and a “totally normal wall” with an explosive barrel sitting right in front of it. Shoot the barrel to blow the wall open and deal with the enemy that pops out.
Grab the D-namite to your left and another box through the hole in the wall. Look across the room at the floor section that looks incomplete. Throw some D-namite at it to blow a hole in the floor. Drop down, and you will land right next to a tied up Roland.
There is a typewriter sitting right there. Save your game before you do anything else.
Talk to Roland. He tells Jack the goons were talking about killing a guy named Stilton and loading up the “big gun.” Jack looks over the balcony and realizes a massive cannon is pointed directly at mayoral candidate Cornelius Stilton.
Stopping the Assassination
Walk out and tailpick the locked north door. Stock up on the Boomstick ammo, D-namite, Heal D drinks, and helmet armor inside. Four enemies will jump out of the barrels on the east side of the room.
Blow open the totally normal wall on the east side. Before you run through, grab the cheese slice on the left and the Joe Jody Gain Baseball Card on the right.
Drop down to the rooftop patio. Enemies will rush you in three waves. Grab the ammo and Heal D off the east railing. Before you leave this area, run down the south ramp, smash the barrel underneath it, and grab Comic 5.
The Crane Room Sniper
The next room is massive and packed with enemies. Grab the chest plate armor running up the center ramp first, then immediately find cover.
You are dealing with a sniper mouse who teleports between three spots:
- The bottom of the north ramp.
- The top of the north ramp.
- The corner platform floating above the white cable switch.
Use your Micer pistol to pick him off from a distance while dashing to avoid his shots. Once he is dead, pull the switch behind the ramp to swing the crane over to the west wall. Jump on the crate, run across the vents, and hit the switch on the fire escape landing to open the gate and drop the platform.
Fight off the next wave of enemies (which includes another sniper), then use the crane platform to reach the newly opened west door. Grab the ammo, D-namite, and save at the typewriter inside.
Drop down and take the stairs to the main backstage area. A set wall will smash down from the ceiling, and enemies will pour through the doors. Look up and shoot the hanging piano to crush some of them. Grab the cheese slice on the right and push forward.
A small mouse holding D-namite will try to block you. Blow up the totally normal wall on the left side of the set, kill the guy behind it, and run through the tunnel.
In the next float room, grab the chest plate armor on the left. You have to deal with two guys with bats and another sniper hiding in the back left tower. Run up the north stairs and pull the switch. The ground will flood with water, but a plank drops so you can cross safely.
Hit the next switch to lower a box and reveal a trampoline. Fight off three more enemies (including another sniper), bounce on the trampoline to reach the railcar above, and save at the typewriter. When you drop down to the other side of backstage and start walking, the floor completely gives way, and you plummet into the basement.
Surviving the Basement
You land safely on some pillows, but two enemies are instantly attacking you. Grab the chest armor to the north while fighting off two more guys coming from the east doors.
Push through the north door, deal with the ambush, and run up the west steps to find the Old Rat Stuntman. He teaches you how to Double Jump. While you are up there, grab Newspaper 4 off the nearby wheelchair.
Before you leave the basement, you need to grab two hidden secrets:
- Secret 1: Stand on the table on the south side of the first basement room and face west. Double jump up to the hidden ledge. Walk toward the stuntman’s area and check the right table for ammo and the Bartholomew Creasley Baseball Card.
- Secret 2: Stand near the stuntman and jump across the white painted boards. Turn around, double jump down to the water planks, and walk into the hidden cove underneath the stuntman’s platform. You will find a timed safe with spikes and move restrictions. This safe holds crucial weapon schematics. Warning: You can get permanently locked out of this safe if you fail, so do not trigger it until you are absolutely ready.
Make sure to check the barrels on the east platform for another set of schematics.
Climb the ladder, double jump across to the open vent, turn on your flashlight, and crawl through. Save at the typewriter and take the stairs back up to the stage.
The Cannon and the Prima Donna Boss Fight
You are finally back on the main stage, right behind the cannon. Before you touch it, check behind the large backdrop on the left for a cheese slice and some cash. There is also a timed safe full of money to the east.
When you are ready, double jump over to the cannon and interact with it. Jack rotates it away from Stilton, which completely saves him, but accidentally sets the entire stage on fire. The curtains fly open, and the Prima Donna drops down from the ceiling for a boss fight.
Here is how to handle her attacks:
| Attack | What She Does | How to Counter |
| Spear Swing | Swings at you if you get too close. | Dash backward immediately. |
| Charge Attack | Belts out a high note and rushes you. | Dash sideways right as she finishes the note. |
| Ceiling Drop | Sings to summon a target marker on the floor. | Keep moving and stay off the marker. |
The best strategy is to stay constantly mobile. Double jump and dash in circles, closing in to blast her in the head with the Boomstick before backing off to reload.
Do not touch the fire ring around the arena, or it will drain your health. Use any cheese slices you found if you get low. There is a known bug where standing on the east side of the cannon when you rotate it might trap you outside the fighting area, so always stand on the west side when you interact with it.
Escaping the Burning Opera
Once the Prima Donna drops, a walkway opens to the east. Run up the stairs and through the door. The floor will start collapsing under your feet. Look to your left and grab the schematic from the closet before double jumping over the massive hole in the floor.
Kill the two enemies on the other side, and the ceiling will collapse, forcing you into the viewing balcony. This is your chance. Pull out your camera, aim it at the audience seats below, and snap a picture to finish Tammy’s side quest.
Save at the typewriter in the connected balcony. Run into the lobby and fight off the six enemies blocking your path. The building will shake, dropping a staircase pillar. Climb over it to bypass the fire wall.
Drop down into the kitchen, clear out the last few enemies, and head for the exit. Jack gets stuck and starts monologuing, but Roland kicks the east door open and drags you out right before the building explodes.
Wrapping Up the Case
Roland tells you Steve Bandel mentioned a secret lab underneath his mansion, but he has no idea where the mansion actually is. Your car is right behind him. Drive southwest back to your office.
On the way, stop and give the opera photo to Tammy. She is slightly annoyed that the building is actively burning in the picture, but she still pays you $100. Buy Newspaper 5 from the paperboy outside your office for $15.
Head upstairs, save your game, and interact with the crime wall. Jack will automatically pin the two new clues: “Somewhere Under the Mansion” and “Assassination Attempt.”
Walk back downstairs, and Cornelius Stilton will be waiting for you. He knows exactly where the mansion is, setting you up for the next chapter.
