Gothic 1 Remake Guide: How To Enable Console Commands And Cheats

Unlock God Mode, Spawn Infinite Ore, and Fix Broken Quests by Taking Total Control of the Engine

Quick Answer: The vanilla game hides the developer console, so you must download the BP Mod Loader and Console Enabler from NexusMods to unlock it. Extract the zip contents directly into your \G1R\Content\Paks\ folder. Once in-game, double-tap the tilde (~) key to open the command line and take total control over the engine.

The Colony is a beautiful but absolutely unforgiving meat grinder. One clumsy dodge roll during a scavenger fight will put you right in the dirt, and the game’s brutal autosave system has no problem deleting an hour of your hard-earned progress. Throw in invisible, strict quest timers that permanently lock you out of rewards, and it is easy to see why players get incredibly frustrated.

You do not have to endure the friction if you do not want to. The modding community has already ripped open the backend of the game. By installing a lightweight utility, you can manipulate the calendar, bypass broken quests, or just turn on God Mode to exact your revenge on the local wildlife.

Setting Up The Console Enabler

Because the developers locked the console in the retail build, you need a third-party tool to break it open.

Head over to NexusMods and download the BP Mod Loader and Console Enabler, built by KeinZantezuken and uploaded by KZekai. This tool acts as a foundation for mods while completely stripping away the developer console restrictions. Keep in mind that this utility is currently confirmed to work exclusively on the Steam version. If you are playing via GamePass, you are sadly out of luck for the time being.

Installation Steps

You do not need a fancy mod manager to get this running. Just follow these quick steps:

  1. Open your Steam Library, right-click your Gothic 1 Remake installation, and select Manage.
  2. Click Browse Local Files to open the root game directory.
  3. Unzip the downloaded mod archive.
  4. Drag and drop the extracted files right into this specific folder path: \G1R\Content\Paks\
  5. Verify that all the files beginning with “SML.” are sitting in that Paks folder.
  6. Launch the game. Once your character loads into the world, tap the tilde (~) or backtick (`) key twice to drop down the console UI at the top of your screen.

Before you completely break the game’s economy with cheats, you might want to try tackling some of the early challenges legitimately. If you are struggling to earn your keep, take a detour and read our guide on how to crack Scatty’s chest to secure a vital Old Camp vote.

Rescuing Broken Quests

While spawning a thousand Ore Nuggets is fun, the real power of this console is fixing quests that the game unfairly fails you on.

The ‘Whistler’s Sword’ errand is notorious for this. Whistler hands you 100 Ore to buy a weapon from Fisk. What the game fails to mention is that you are instantly put on a hidden, brutal timer. If you spend two days exploring or doing other camp jobs before buying the sword, Whistler throws a tantrum. The quest fails, he demands his money back, and he refuses to give you his vote.

Instead of reloading a save from five hours ago, you can literally turn back time. Open the command line and type:

setgametime 01 07 00 00

This command violently yanks the macro world calendar back to Day 1 at 7:00 AM. Walk up to Whistler, and his anger state will be completely reset. The engine thinks you never missed the deadline, allowing you to hand over the sword, collect your experience, and secure his vote without a single issue.
