Subnautica 2 Guide: How to Find Acidic Raion Pouches and Craft Batteries
Power Up Your Scanners and Harvest Free Healing From the Shallow Caves

Quick Answer: Dive straight down about 34 meters below your starting Lifepod into the shallow cave systems. Look for a weird plant with purple, brain-like leaves called an Acid Raion. Equip your Survival Multitool and slash those purple leaves to harvest the Acidic Raion Pouches.
If you want your flashlights to turn on and your scanners to actually scan, you are going to need batteries. In the opening hours of your underwater journey, securing portable power is your biggest hurdle. To craft those batteries, you need a steady supply of Acidic Raion Pouches.
Thankfully, the game does not force you into deep, terrifying waters to find them. They are literally sitting right beneath your feet.
Locating the Acid Raion Plant
You do not need to embark on a massive expedition to find this resource. Drop down directly below your Lifepod and start searching the rocky seafloor.
You are looking for small holes and underground cave networks. These shallow rock formations are absolutely packed with a specific piece of flora called the Acid Raion. It is impossible to miss. The plant features bright purple, heavily wrinkled leaves that look exactly like human brains surrounding a bright green bulb.
| Discovery Metrics | Target Details |
| Location | 34 meters directly beneath the Lifepod |
| Target Depth | 30 meters |
| Harvest Tool Required | Survival Multitool |
How to Harvest the Pouches
You cannot just swim up and rip these pouches off with your bare hands. You need a Survival Multitool. If you have not crafted one yet, simply throw two pieces of Titanium into your Fabricator.
Once your tool is equipped, swim up to the Acid Raion and slash the purple “brain” leaves. A single plant will yield exactly three Acidic Raion Pouches.
Before you start stockpiling massive amounts of battery components, you will inevitably need a proper storage system and base infrastructure. Take a quick detour and read our Subnautica 2 Guide: Where to Find and Farm Quartz so you have enough glass to build those essential early-game habitats.

Bonus Loot: Free Healing
While you are slashing away at the purple leaves, do not ignore that glowing green bulb sitting right in the center of the stem. That is a Medical Gel Sac.
Unlike the pouches, you can just pluck the Medical Gel Sac right off the plant with your hands. You can either eat it raw on the spot for an immediate health boost or take it back to your Fabricator to craft a proper First Aid Kit.
The best part about the Acid Raion is that it is a renewable resource. Once you strip the pouches and the gel sac, the bare stem remains anchored to the rock. Give it a little time, and both the pouches and the medical sac will fully regrow for your next farming run.
What Are Acidic Raion Pouches Used For?
This purple material is the foundation of your early-game electronics and base modules. You will run back and forth to your Fabricator constantly to process these two main recipes:
| Crafted Item | Required Materials | Primary Function |
| Basic Battery | 1x Acidic Raion Pouch, 2x Copper | Powers essential handheld tools like the Scanner and Flashlight. |
| Mild Acid | 2x Acidic Raion Pouch, 1x Copper | Required to build advanced base modules like the Biolab and Processor. |
Keep a healthy stack of these pouches in your storage lockers at all times. The moment your Scanner dies in the middle of a pitch-black cave, you will be thankful you farmed a few extra batteries.
