Mina the Hollower Guide: Master the Fishing Mini-Game

Hook the Fishin' Reactor Trophy and Snag the Angler's Raft with Our Complete Breakdown of Tenebrous Isle Angling

Quick Answer: Snag your fishing rod from Irwin in the Backwaters, spend 3 Joules per cast to reel in all 16 unique aquatic oddities, and hand them over to Durwin to earn the coveted Fishin’ Reactor trophy alongside the Gilded Rod upgrade.

You can absolutely blast through the main campaign of Mina the Hollower without ever touching a fishing rod. Tenebrous Isle has enough horrors to keep your hands full without worrying about bait. But if you want total completion and ultimate bragging rights, angling is entirely worth your time. Catching every mutant fish will net you the Fishin’ Reactor trophy. Finding the rod itself is your first real hurdle, as it is hidden completely off the beaten path.

Tracking Down the Fishing Rod

Before you start pulling bizarre creatures out of the mud, you need to find Irwin. He is chilling at the Fishing Hole in the Backwaters. Reaching him requires surviving a pretty rough trek through nasty territory.

  • Start at the Occupied Bridge located in the Western Wilds, just northwest of Ossex.
  • Run straight left, bypassing the enemies and lava pits.
  • Head south to enter the Shanty Swamp.
  • Keep pushing south until you spot a signpost.
  • Move east into the next screen.

You have officially found the Fishing Hole. Chat with Irwin and he will gladly hand over the rod. Using this tool costs 3 Joules per cast. The mini-game is straightforward. Press your action button to toss your line, hit it again to drop the bobber precisely over a fish shadow, and reel in your prize.

Essential Upgrades: The Gilded Rod and Angler’s Raft

Your basic rod gets the job done initially, but exploring Tenebrous Isle uncovers some incredible tools that make fishing a breeze.

The Angler’s Raft

This Sidearm completely changes the game. Deploying the raft tosses down a floating wooden plank, allowing you to stand directly on top of the water for a short window of time. Catching fish in awkward, hard-to-reach corners becomes trivial.

To unlock the raft, head over to Sandfalls: Shifted Sands. Walk near the staircase leading toward Bone Beach and examine the left area for a suspicious-looking wall. Blow it wide open with a bomb, use a kear to traverse the hidden room, and crack open the chest waiting inside.

The Gilded Rod

This is your ultimate reward for finishing your collection. After you catch all 16 unique fish, return to the Fishing Hole and hand them over to Durwin. He will reward you with the Gilded Rod, which drastically increases your casting distance.

All 16 Fish Locations

Finding every fish requires scouring some pretty nasty puddles and streams. If you do not see a shadow right away, look closely at every body of water. Any catch you reel in will automatically show up on the trophy shelf at the Fishing Hole.
