Subnautica 2 Guide: How to Clear Bloom Infestations

Craft the Sonic Resonator to Purge Hazardous Zones and Claim Powerful New Adaptations

Quick Answer: Scan two degraded Sonic Resonators at the Welcome Home point of interest (375m North of the Lifepod) to unlock the blueprint. Craft the tool at your base, then blast the glowing white buds within an infestation zone to instantly clear the threat and claim a new Adaptation reward.

You will eventually hit a wall when exploring the deeper waters of Zazura. Massive networks of purple roots and glowing white bulbs block off critical paths and progression milestones. These hazardous zones are known as Bloom Infestations, and trying to swim through them unprepared is a quick way to end up at the respawn screen.

The swarming fish inside these zones are relentless, and standard weapons won’t cut it. To bypass this barrier, you must track down, craft, and utilize a specialized piece of high-tech gear: the Sonic Resonator.

Unlocking the Sonic Resonator Blueprint

Before you can manufacture this device, your Scanner needs to analyze two broken prototypes. While pieces of this technology are scattered all over the ocean floor, you can save a massive amount of time by visiting a specific location that holds both required scans under one roof.

Set your compass North and swim roughly 375 meters away from your Lifepod until you reach the Welcome Home point of interest. Once inside the facility, look closely at these two spots:

  1. Grab your first scan from the storage shelf positioned immediately to the right of the main entrance.
  2. Walk into the adjacent room and look down at the floor to your left to find the second broken prototype.

Manufacturing the Tool

With both scans registered, the blueprint will unlock at your base. The Sonic Resonator is an advanced piece of equipment, meaning you cannot construct it until you have upgraded your base infrastructure past the bare minimum.

If you are still relying entirely on your starter pod, you need to expand your base capabilities first. Check out our comprehensive guide on all Biomods and how to unlock them in Subnautica 2 to ensure your character and habitat are fully upgraded for mid-game tech.

Once your base is fully powered, gather the following materials for the fabrication bench:

Required MaterialQuantityAcquisition Notes
Titanium Ingots2Requires a Processor module to refine raw Titanium ore.
Lead2Harvested from standard sandstone deposits.
Wiring Kit1Crafted using Silver and Copper Wire.
Basic Battery1Crafted using Copper and Acidic Raion Pouches.

As a major added bonus, this tool is excellent for mining. Firing a fully charged sonic blast at the massive, unbreakable ore veins you find in deep trenches will instantly shatter them, showering you with rare resources.

How to Cleanse an Infestation Zone

When you return to a Bloom zone with your new tool, do not waste your time trying to fight off the aggressive alien fish. They spawn endlessly and will rapidly drain your health. Instead, you need to treat the zone like a puzzle and focus entirely on the environment.

Each hazardous area contains two central Bloom Nodes. To cleanse them entirely, follow this step-by-step process:

  1. Swim into the zone and look for the glowing white buds growing along the thick purple stalks.
  2. Hold down the trigger to fully charge your Sonic Resonator, then fire directly at a bud.
  3. Keep moving to dodge the swarming fish while repeating this process; one charged blast destroys one bud.
  4. Once every single white bulb on the node is shattered, the immediate area is cleansed.
  5. Do not wander off blindly. Visually track the thick purple roots leading out from the cleansed node, as they act as a direct pathway guiding you straight to the second hidden node.

The moment you destroy the final bulb on the second node, the entire infestation collapses. Every single aggressive Bloom fish in the immediate area will instantly die, allowing you to harvest your reward in absolute peace.

Reaping Your Reward

Clearing out both nodes permanently purges the hazard from the area and drops a rare Angel Comb item. Taking this biological sample back to your lab unlocks a brand new Adaptation for your character. Because these permanent passive upgrades are vital for surviving deep-sea pressure and extreme temperatures, clearing out these purple root zones is mandatory if you want to progress through the story.
