Windrose Guide: Learn how to craft Linen Fabric
Stop Running Out of Cloth: The Ultimate Linen Fabric Farming Guide for Windrose

Linen Fabric is your first real textile upgrade in Windrose. It sits one step above basic Coarse Fabric, and you are going to need a ton of it. You use it for better armor, Tarred Fabric, and the Boarding Party Gear that makes your ship crew actually useful in a fight.
Once the mid game crafting recipes open up, you will hit a massive wall if your supply runs dry. Luckily, the production chain is super short and the required crafting station is incredibly cheap to set up.
Crafting Linen Fabric from Scratch
You cannot just find Linen Fabric sitting in treasure chests out in the wild. Crafting is your only reliable option. You need a Spinning Wheel and three pieces of Flax Fiber for every single piece of fabric. The recipe unlocks automatically the very first time you pick up some Flax.
Here is the exact process:
- Travel to the Foothills biome.
- Gather Flax Fiber from the tall plants with bright blue flowers.
- Return to your base and build a Spinning Wheel.
- Convert your fiber at a three to one ratio.
Setting Up Your Spinning Wheel
Do not run back to a public crafting station every time you need cloth. Build your own Spinning Wheel immediately.
| Requirement | Details |
| Materials Needed | 10 Wood, 5 Rope |
| Placement Rule | Must be placed under a roof |
| Input | 3 Flax Fiber |
| Output | 1 Linen Fabric |
Just like the Alchemy Table, the game checks for a roof collision tag. If you place your Spinning Wheel outside in the dirt, it will not work. Build a basic shelter first.
Where to Find Flax Fiber
Stop looking in the starting Coastal Jungle zone. Flax does not grow there. You have to push forward into the Foothills biome. Look for tall green stems with bright blue flowers. They usually spawn in clusters across open grasslands and elevated terrain.
Walking the edges of hills is the best way to spot multiple plants at once. Just keep your head on a swivel. Enemies patrol these exact same areas. Clear them out first so they do not interrupt your gathering rhythm.
Speaking of dealing with enemies in the Foothills, you are going to want a solid weapon to clear those camps fast. Check out my guide on finding the Stalwart Greatsword so you can slice through those patrols without breaking a sweat.
The Most Efficient Farming Route
Do not craft your fabric piece by piece. The best method is to focus entirely on raw volume and process everything in one massive batch.
Here is the most efficient loop:
- Sail to a Foothills island loaded with Flax clusters.
- Clear out any nearby enemies to secure the area.
- Gather every single plant in one continuous run.
- Head back to base and spin it all into Linen Fabric at once.
Do not sit around waiting for plants to respawn. Once an island is stripped clean, sail to the next one.
Setting Up an Infinite Base Farm
Yes, you can grow your own Flax, and you absolutely should do this as early as possible. While you are out harvesting wild plants, you will occasionally pick up Flax Seeds.
Take those seeds back to your base and plant them in a Seedbed. This creates a permanent, renewable supply of fiber right in your backyard.
Why this is a game changer:
- You get a steady supply without sailing all the way to the Foothills.
- Your overall fabric output skyrockets.
- You free up massive amounts of travel time for better tasks.
- You can scale the farm by building more Seedbeds.
Keep in mind that seeds are not a guaranteed drop. Pick up every wild plant you see in the early game just to build up your seed stock.
What Should You Stockpile?
Do not treat Linen Fabric as an item you only craft when you need it. By the time a recipe asks for fifteen pieces at once, stopping your adventure to go pick flowers is incredibly annoying.
Keep a working buffer of twenty to thirty pieces in your chests at all times. This covers almost all of your early and mid game needs. Once your Seedbed farm is running at full capacity, supply will naturally keep up with your demand anyway.
