Windrose Guide: Getting the Plague Pistol
Never Die Again: The Ultimate Guide to the Plague Pistol in Windrose

Quick Answer: The Plague Pistol is found in chests in the Cursed Swamp (Tainted Ruins, Crypts). It has a 0.01% drop rate and heals you for 40% of the damage dealt.
Most ranged weapons in Windrose just deal damage. The Plague Pistol is built differently. It actually heals you for 40 percent of every single point of damage you deal. This one mechanic totally changes how you fight. Instead of hiding behind cover and playing it safe, you can stay aggressive. A 500 damage shot gives you 200 HP right back. Just keep shooting and you stay alive.
There is a catch. This Epic rarity firearm only spawns in one specific biome and has an incredibly brutal drop rate. Here is exactly where to look, how to craft it, and how to upgrade it all the way to level 15.
Where to Find the Plague Pistol
Do not waste your time searching the Foothills or the tropical islands. The Plague Pistol is permanently locked to the Cursed Swamp biome. You need to hunt for chests in four specific Points of Interest:
- Tainted Ruins (big crumbling stone buildings usually guarded by elite enemies)
- Crypts (dark underground areas where you need a light source)
- Ruins with a Flowerbed (mostly found in the transition zones of the swamp)
- Swamp Garden Ruins (open air spots with lots of vertical climbing)
The drop rate is notoriously low. Sitting in the Epic Tier of the Swamp Loot Table, your odds are about 0.01 percent per chest. Clearing all four locations and getting absolutely nothing is totally normal. Just travel to another biome to reset the loot and try again.
If you are struggling with the early grind and need to stock up on resources for your base first, you might want to read my guide on how to farm Linen Fabric fast before heading into the swamp.

Surviving the Cursed Swamp
The biggest threat here is not just the enemies. The Wood Plague status effect builds up passively in Tainted Forest zones and will literally drain your health bar if the meter fills up. You need the right gear to survive.
Watch your UI. Never let that Wood Plague meter hit 100 percent. If it gets too high, back away into a clean zone. Dying in the swamp means losing your rare materials, and you definitely do not want to lose your Ingot Arborum.
Crafting the Plague Pistol
Once you finally find the gun, the recipe permanently unlocks at your Weaponsmith Workshop. This means you can craft extra copies whenever you want.
- 10 Wood
- 3 Copper Ingots
- 5 Ingot Arborum
Ingot Arborum is a swamp exclusive material. It drops from Glow Wood trees and sits in the exact same chests you are already farming. You will naturally build up a pile of it while hunting for the pistol.
Upgrading All the Way to Level 15
Upgrading your weapon happens at the Weaponsmith Workshop. The material costs jump up massively once you hit level 6 and level 11.
Start hoarding Master Tools early because you need them for the higher tiers. Once you reach level 10, shift your focus entirely to farming Mire Metal Ingots.
Is the Grind Actually Worth It?
Honestly, yes. The Longbow might have better range and stealth, but the Plague Pistol dominates close combat. The fast reload and insane lifesteal let you face tank bosses that would normally crush you.
The drop rate is rough, so equip any luck boosting jewelry or eat food that raises your Discovery stat. It will not magically guarantee a drop, but every little bit helps. You can also bypass the grind entirely by trading rare materials like Silver with another player in multiplayer.
