Subnautica 2 Guide: How to Unlock and Craft the Repair Tool

Track Down Scattered Blueprints and Brave the Heat Zones to Fix Your Broken Tech

Quick Answer: You must scan three broken Repair Tool fragments hidden inside wrecked bases located South, Southeast, and Northeast of your Lifepod. After unlocking the blueprint, you can craft the tool at your Fabricator using a Titanium Ingot, a Wiring Kit, a Basic Battery, and Sulfur.

You will not need a Repair Tool the second you crash on Zazura. Your starter equipment and basic survival needs take priority. Eventually, though, your base will take damage or you will stumble across malfunctioning Alterra technology out in the ocean. When that time comes, you need a way to fix things.

Unlocking this device requires a bit of a treasure hunt. You also need to prepare yourself for some extreme environments, as the final crafting recipe demands materials hidden inside high temperature zones.

Diving deep into abandoned wrecks to scan blueprints burns through your air supply incredibly fast. Before you begin this scavenger hunt, make sure you know exactly how to increase your oxygen capacity in Subnautica 2 so you do not black out inside a sunken elevator shaft.

Where to Find All Three Blueprint Fragments

To unlock the crafting recipe, you need to pull out your Scanner and find three separate broken tools scattered across the seafloor.

  1. Chap’s Base Location: Grab your compass and swim 217 meters Southeast from your Lifepod. Look down to spot a massive obelisk pillar. Right next to it is a ring shaped hole leading into a cave system. Swim inside the cave, turn Northwest, and you will see a base hatch. Head inside and scan the broken tool sitting on a table.
  2. The Crashed Elevator: Swim 270 meters directly South from your starting point. You will spot a massive metal ruin wedged near some tall rocky cliffs. Find the small entry door on the side of the wreckage and take an immediate left. You will see a cracked elevator. Drop down through the broken floorboards and scan the fragment resting on the sofa in the corner.
  3. The Deep Storage Room: Swim 347 meters Northeast from the Lifepod. Dive straight down until you are completely underneath the giant ruined base. Look for a massive, partially open door that leads into a large storage area. Swim inside and scan the final fragment sitting right next to the window.

Crafting Your New Device

With the blueprint secured, head back to your seabase. You will use the Fabricator to piece the tool together. Be warned, the material list requires some advanced processing and a dangerous trip out East.

Required MaterialHow to Obtain It
1x Titanium IngotFarm 6x raw Titanium Ore and run it through a Processor module inside your base.
1x Wiring KitCrafted at a Fabricator using 1x Silver Ore and 1x Copper Wire.
1x Basic BatteryCrafted at a Fabricator using 2x Copper Ore and 1x Acidic Raion Pouch.
1x SulfurMined from the extreme heat zones directly East of the Lifepod.

Surviving the Sulfur Run

You cannot just casually swim East to grab Sulfur. The water temperature will boil you alive. Before you attempt this gathering run, you must unlock and equip the Heat Tolerance trait at a Biolab. It is also highly recommended that you craft the Sonic Resonator to help clear any blocked paths you encounter along the way.

Once constructed, your new tool runs on standard battery power. Simply aim it at sparks or damaged base hulls and hold the trigger to weld them back together. The power drain is extremely forgiving, so a single fully charged Basic Battery will easily last you through dozens of major repairs.
