Subnautica 2 Guide: How to Find and Craft the Wakemaker
Outrun Wildlife and Explore Faster With This Essential Underwater Scooter

Quick Answer: Scan three blueprint fragments hidden inside broken metal containers scattered just North-Northwest of your Lifepod. Once you unlock the recipe, combine Silver, a Wiring Kit, Grease, and a Basic Battery at your Fabricator to build this essential underwater mobility gadget.
Paddling around Zazura at your default swim speed gets incredibly tedious. If you want to outrun aggressive wildlife and cover massive distances without wasting all your oxygen, you need a Wakemaker. This handheld gadget is easily the best early-game quality of life upgrade you can get your hands on.
Before you can fire up your personal underwater scooter, you need to track down its blueprints and gather a specific set of crafting materials.
Tracking Down the Blueprint Fragments
To unlock the crafting recipe, you need to find and scan three separate broken Wakemaker fragments. Thankfully, they are all clustered relatively close to each other in the shallow waters near your starting location.
Grab your compass and follow this exact route to grab all three scans in a single trip:
The First Fragment: Start at your Lifepod and face North-Northwest, keeping your compass marker perfectly between 330 and 345. Swim out exactly 95 meters and dive down to a depth of 18 meters. Look for a cluster of bright orange coral surrounded by loose metal salvage. Check inside the broken metal containers here to find your first scan.

The Second Fragment: Float right above the spot where you found the first fragment and turn your camera North toward the 60 marker. You will easily spot a small cave littered with Alterra wreckage. Swim inside and look for another open metal box holding the second piece.

The Third Fragment: Head back to the exact location of the first fragment. Turn your compass to the 240 marker and swim forward for about 20 meters. Look straight down at the seafloor to spot a deep crevice. Dive into that crack all the way down to 53 meters to find the final fragment resting in a metal box.

While you are digging through all this ruined Alterra wreckage, you will eventually need a way to fix the damaged tech you find. Be sure to read our full breakdown on how to unlock and craft the Repair Tool in Subnautica 2 so your base and equipment stay in working order.
How to Craft Your Wakemaker
With the blueprint fully unlocked, swim back to your Lifepod and fire up the Fabricator. This tool requires a mix of raw ores, electronics, and biological materials.
Here is your complete shopping list:
| Required Material | How to Craft or Find It |
| 1x Silver | Mined from deep caves located 200 meters North of the Lifepod. Look for orange “Pent” plants growing at the cave entrances. |
| 1x Wiring Kit | Crafted at a Fabricator using 1x Silver and 1x Copper Wire. |
| 1x Grease | Crafted at a Fabricator using 1x Lucifer Rotsac. You can harvest these glowing orange bulbs from Cradle Shootroot plants roughly 70 meters East of your Lifepod. |
| 1x Basic Battery | Crafted at a Fabricator using 1x Copper and 1x Acidic Raion Pouch. |
Keeping Your Gadget Charged
Your new Wakemaker is a power hog. Every time you squeeze the trigger for a speed boost, it drains a portion of its internal battery.
When it runs dry, you do not need to build a brand new tool. Just keep a spare, fully charged Basic Battery in your inventory. Hit your reload hotkey (R on PC) to pop the dead battery out and slot the fresh one in. Do not throw your dead batteries into the ocean! You can eventually scan and build a Battery Terminal base module to recharge them for free.
