Yoshi and the Mysterious Book Guide: 100% Wildwoods Chapter Walkthrough

Your Complete Guide to Every Creature, Discovery, and Smiley Flower in the Wildwoods

Quick Answer: The Wildwoods is the opening chapter of Yoshi and the Mysterious Book, requiring zero stars to unlock. You will navigate five unique creature habitats and hunt down 20 Smiley Flowers, which takes most players around two to four hours to fully complete.

The Wildwoods sets the stage for your entire journey. Do not let the fact that it is the starting area fool you. While it boasts one fewer creature than the rest of the game’s chapters, tracking down every single Discovery still takes some serious effort. Expect to spend a solid chunk of time here, especially if you get stuck on the timing puzzles later in the stage.

Here is exactly how to conquer every habitat and grab all 20 Smiley Flowers without breaking a sweat.

The Wildwoods Roster

You get a free pass into this chapter with zero Stars required. It serves as a fantastic training ground to get used to the games core mechanics.

There are five distinct creatures roaming this zone:

  • Crazee Dayzee: Hiding 3 Smiley Flowers
  • Bunchabee: Hiding 5 Smiley Flowers
  • Scatterpuff: Hiding 3 Smiley Flowers
  • Croakaoke: Hiding 4 Smiley Flowers
  • Glubbit: Hiding 5 Smiley Flowers

Keep in mind that the Wildwoods actually evolves. As you progress through the main story and discover new creatures in later chapters, you can return here to trigger fresh Discovery Events that were completely locked off during your first visit!

Crazee Dayzee Habitat

The Crazee Dayzee is your introduction to the games creature mechanics. Pull out your Magnifying Glass to inspect the walking flower in the grass to kick things off. Your main goal here is to use a Tail Flick to hoist the Crazee Dayzee onto Yoshi’s back. Carrying this little guy forces nearby flower buds to bloom.

Always keep a Crazee Dayzee equipped when you reach the end of the stage. You must be carrying one to make the final three large flower buds bloom so you can cross them and trigger the Big Discovery.

Crazee Dayzee Smiley Flowers

  1. Look for the Arched Bush and walk down the grassy slope leaning left. Sneak into the underground passage beneath the arch and run to the far left wall to find the flower.
  2. Head right from that same Arched Bush until you spot a secret path running under a Red Exclamation Switch. Follow it to the right and use a Flutter Jump to snatch the flower hovering over the mud.
  3. Perform a Ground Pound directly on the Red Exclamation Switch. This summons a rain cloud that grows a massive tree. Scale the tree, step onto the big right side platform, and hop up the smaller left side ledges to Flutter Jump to your prize.

Bunchabee Habitat

Things switch up drastically here. The Bunchabee section tasks you with finding all five Smiley Flowers to simply finish the mission. The flowers are out in the open, but massive swarms of angry bees guard them fiercely.

If you run out of eggs, grab a Crazee Dayzee! You can throw them at Winged Clouds or use them to distract the bee swarms.

Bunchabee Smiley Flowers

  1. Toss an egg at the Winged Cloud to materialize some platforms. Walk out onto the longest one and snatch the flower right out from under the Bunchabees.
  2. Drop down below the small cave entrance to find a set of leaf platforms. A swarm holds this flower hostage. Either crouch down in the bog to dodge their stingers, or toss a Crazee Dayzee to pull their aggro.
  3. Starting from the platforms spawned by the Winged Cloud, jump to the yellow platform on the right. Then, jump to the orange platform up and to the left. Swing across the vines to grab the flower.
  4. Locate the tiny cave entrance in the upper right corner of the area. Put a Crazee Dayzee on your back and crawl inside. The bees will swarm the flowers on your back and get trapped, leaving the Smiley Flower completely unguarded.
  5. Head to the long platform located just above and left of the vine swinging section. Fire a few eggs into the Bunchabee hives to scatter the swarm, then casually walk up and take the flower.

Scatterpuff Habitat

Scatterpuffs introduce a highly interactive spreading mechanic to the Wildwoods. You need to grab an apple from the tree on the upper right platform and run straight through the fluffy white creatures. This infects the apple. Run back and forth to grow massive Scatterpuffs on the tree, which you can then use as bouncy platforms.

Here is a quick breakdown of how Scatterpuff spores interact with the environment:

Environmental TargetSpore Effect
GrassSprouts and grows new puff platforms
Rocks & BouldersWeakens and cracks the stone
WaterAbsorbs the moisture and lowers the water level
Giant Scatterpuff (Ground Pound)Splits the massive puff into several smaller ones
Spores (Rolling a Wooden Ball)Coats the ball to create a rolling giant Scatterpuff

Scatterpuff Smiley Flowers

  1. Run to the far right side of the map to find a statue. Cover it completely in Scatterpuff spores, then smash it open with a Ground Pound to reveal the hidden flower.
  2. Stand on the platform directly above the cave where the creature is sleeping. Coat the floating shrub with spores. Once the massive white balls grow, bounce on them to reach the high ledge holding the flower.
  3. Spread spores around the edge of the pond to drain the water. Next, roll the wooden ball through a patch of spores to build a giant Scatterpuff ball. Roll this massive puff down into the empty pond basin to smash open a secret area containing the final flower.

Croakaoke Habitat

Get ready for a rhythm game. You need to bounce on the heads of frog like creatures called Croakaokes, and each one sings a specific musical note. You unlock Smiley Flowers by completing actual real world melodies without missing a single beat.

If you keep messing up the timing, just hold down the jump button when you land on a Croakaoke. This gives Yoshi way more airtime, letting you easily line up your next drop.

Croakaoke Smiley Flowers

  1. Play the “Do Re Mi” scale. Bounce on the Croakaokes in this exact color order: Red, Orange, Yellow, Green, Light Blue, Dark Blue, Purple, and finally the higher Red one. The flower will spawn above the last frog.
  2. Play the “Whimsical Waltz”. Walk past the first massive purple Croakaoke. Start bouncing from the orange one and connect your jumps all the way to the second pair of tiny green Croakaokes.
  3. Play “Mary Had a Little Lamb”. Give the giant green Croakaoke a pink note fruit so you can reach the high platforms. Follow the frogs in sequence flawlessly to earn the flower.
  4. Play “London Bridge is Falling Down”. Feed a chili pepper to the light blue Croakaoke to unlock the underground route. Start at the lower right light blue frog, bounce in a clockwise circle, and route back to the left.

Glubbit Habitat

The final stretch of the Wildwoods features the Glubbit, and you have five Smiley Flowers to track down. Pick up a Glubbit and run around to generate bubbles that you can ride into the sky. Feeding them apples creates massive bubbles, while dunking them in mud creates heavy bubbles that sink instead of float.

Glubbit Smiley Flowers

  1. Grab a Glubbit and ride a bubble straight up to the lily pad floating above the tokens. Platform left and right across the other pads to find the flower.
  2. Use the exact same lily pad from the first flower, but keep riding bubbles even higher until you land on top of the massive rock pillar.
  3. Ride a bubble up the right side of a lily pad. While you are floating, snipe the Winged Cloud with an egg. The cloud turns into a Smiley Flower, so use a Flutter Jump to grab it mid air.
  4. Smash a Glubbit into a mud puddle with a Ground Pound. Run across the pile of leaves on the floor so the heavy mud bubbles drop onto them. The leaves will collapse and expose a hidden cave.
  5. Rescue Bowser Jr. and Kamek by popping their bubble. From that exact rescue spot, ride a Glubbits bubbles upward to the lily pad. Spawn more bubbles there and ride them to the absolute highest platform in the stage.
