Step-by-Step Walkthrough
Stage 1: Raiding the Western Foothills
Head west into the Foothills to find several pirate encampments scattered around Blackbeard Waters. Your goal here is not just to rack up kills. Progressing the quest actually requires you to loot the Blackbeard crew chests hidden in each camp.
Pull enemies in small groups so you do not get swarmed. Wipe them out, grab the loot, and move to the next marker.
Stage 2: Sinking and Boarding the Unsinkable
Time to hit the open water. Sail east until you run into a blockade of four Blackbeard ships. Blast them to the bottom of the ocean to trigger the arrival of the massive Unsinkable ship.
Keep your distance during this fight. If you get too close too early, you will be shredded by broadside fire with zero room to dodge. Keep moving, whittle down its health from afar, and then pull up alongside it. This is where having your Upgraded Boarding Party Gear makes a massive difference. Once aboard, take out at least five enemies to secure the clues you need to move forward.
Stage 3: The Ruins Camp Desk
Drop anchor and head toward the northwestern Foothills. Watch your back for wolves as you trek through the woods. When you reach the ruins, systematically clear out the pirate garrison. Keep moving constantly to avoid incoming grenades.
Once the area is quiet, interact with the desk on the left side of the camp. Be ready to fight—a fresh wave of enemies will ambush you immediately after you read the notes.
Stage 4: Hunting Down the Temple Keys
The desk reveals your next target: three temple keys held by pirate lieutenants in the northern Foothills. Visit all three marked camps and take down the leaders.
Pro Tip: Lieutenants hit incredibly hard. Clear out the basic grunts first so you can duel the leader without taking cheap shots from the side. Do not forget to loot the bodies, as at least one key needs to be physically pulled from a dead pirate’s pocket.
Stage 5: Defeating Israel Hands
Take your three keys to the temple, clear the guards outside, and head indoors to face Israel Hands.
Pure aggression will get you killed here. The safest strategy is playing defensively and relying on counter hits. Watch his animations carefully, dodge his heavy swings, and strike right as he commits to an attack. Parrying his moves deals solid damage right back to him.
Once he drops, you will secure the Charon’s Obol artifact. Before leaving, loot the nearby chest to grab the rare Soul Eater weapon. Finally, free the captive named John chained to the wall. Head back to your home base and speak to the cartographer to officially close out the quest.
